Poultry Farming is a lucrative business in Zambia, and is a great source of income for the women and youth. There are three kinds of chicken widely reared in Zambia; Village chicken, layers and broilers. Village chicken is mostly reared in the outskirts of town; it lays eggs which hatch to chicks, layers are rared for meat and laying eggs however its eggs do not hatch because they are unfertilized eggs, and broilers only for meat, it is incapable of laying eggs, and is ready for consumption at six weeks while the other two at six months.

The organization attended two workshops before deciding to set up its first poultry house, emerging four women experts in poultry farming and hatchery, it managed to run its first project in 2018 of broiler chicken in Makeni, the house only had 200 birds for start-up, and expanded to 500 birds before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. In 2021 it resume, housing Broilers and Village chickens. Before the end of the year it partnered with U.S Embassy to Zambia under the Ambassador self-help programme. It resolved to only Village chicken and later shifted the projects to the Shibuyingi (outskirt of town) where it established a hatchery and a poultry house of 1000+ birds.

Eggs laid by the Chicken are hatched in our incubator and some of the hatched chicks are shared among women to domesticate while the rest is put back in our poultry house for continuation of the project so other women and youth can continue benefiting from Women of Justice Org.

Our poultry farming project has benefited 542+ people, most of its beneficiaries are women and youths. And it continues to keep youths from participating in vices such as theft and prostitution because benefits obtained every circle empowers them with money for tuition or capital. The organization has managed to train 72 women and youths in poultry farming, a few of them now run own poultry houses.

The poultry farming project is intended to empower women and youths. Our objective is to educate and give financial support to members to meet daily needs such as food, water and shelter.
